What is the connection between GDPR and data orchestration

Thanks for joining us for part two of our data orchestration blog series. Our previous blog discussed data orchestration and the four steps to get started. You can recap this blog here.

This blog will look at the connection between GDPR and data orchestration.

Before we start:

What is GDPR?

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a legal framework that sets guidelines for collecting and processing personal information from individuals in the EU. It aims to give consumers control over their personal data by holding firms responsible for handling and treating this information. Suppose a firm is in breach of GDPR. In that case, it can be fined heavily, a maximum of £17.5 million or 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is greater.

Now that you know what GDPR is and its severity of breaching the guidelines, let’s examine its connection with data orchestration.

What is the connection between GDPR and data orchestration?

The connection between GDPR and data orchestration is that data orchestration helps your firm become GDPR compliant.

GDPR requires your firm to prove that the data they hold was collected ethically, including detailing when, where, and why the data was collected.

As well as this, under GDPR law, an individual can contact a firm to opt out of data collection, request their information is deleted, or ask to see all the information the firm holds on the individual. If the firm does not have well-organized data, it becomes tough for them to deliver on any of these requests with 100% certainty.

Imagine you have an opt-out request come through from an individual. How time-intensive would it be for your firm to manually check through all your databases to remove their data? Would you be confident that the data was removed from everywhere across your firm? Meeting GDPR opt-out requests is a very time-intensive activity that is regularly error-prone.

Final thought

To ensure you are compliant with GDPR or any other data privacy laws, it’s important to ensure your data is well organized. You need to know where it is and be confident finding it quickly to meet the regulations. Data orchestration can help you with meeting these guidelines.
