Embracing Transformation: The Challenge of Change in Partner Training

Written by Tom Barham on November 23, 2023

The successful adoption of new partner training is a transformative journey that demands strategic planning, effective communication, and continuous support. In this blog, we delve into the invaluable lessons learned from implementing new partner training across three divisions. These insights shed light on the nuances of fostering a culture of continuous learning, tailoring training to individual styles, and the importance of ongoing support.

Join us as we explore the five key lessons that emerged from this exercise.

Lesson 1: Clear Communication is Key

I didn’t appreciate the importance of clarity, not just of the language of instruction, but more importantly the reasons behind the change, the benefits it brings and how it aligns with the company’s goals. This is vital when you are adding work onto stretched teams

Lesson 2: Tailor Training to Individual Learning Styles

It was clear within days that people have diverse learning styles, and it is hard, but trying to accommodate these differences is crucial for adoption. I am sure if I could have offered different forms of the same training messages, we could have achieved quicker take up. Encouraging the feedback and listening, even when I couldn’t make the change was vital.

Lesson 3: Foster a Culture of Continuous Learning

This is a culture that we can always improve, however, as a multi-channel managed service provider, it is written in our DNA as a problem-solving company. Thankfully our business also supports a variety of training. Leadscale funds courses and books that further the business in new areas. I knew it was having an effect in driving curiosity when a colleague introduced a subject that I was not aware of, challenging me to improve

Lesson 4: Provide Ongoing Support and Resources

The learning journey shouldn’t end with the initial training sessions. It should be challenging, and graduated, especially when you have diverse talents. We needed to offer more support, beyond the accredited training program. Therefore, we have hands-on training sessions run by the partner. The key to the partnership though is we offer our own approach and real-world client-led experiences to help improve and grow their ecosystem.

Lesson 5: Measure and Celebrate Progress

Running the audit and more importantly celebrating both internally and externally the successes and milestones helps buy-in. We have had over 50% of the teams invited completing the training inside four weeks. Adopting new materials gives our teams further skills, increased confidence and expertise that our clients expect and appreciate. We have already seen a measurable lift in customer engagement, which will result in increased budgets.

Conclusion

The journey to successful adoption of new training materials within a team is multifaceted. It necessitates meticulous planning, effective communication, and a steadfast commitment to ongoing support. Embracing change and investing in the development of team members not only enhances individual skills but also contributes to the overall growth and adaptability of the ecosystem. A special shout-out is extended to Ellen Hessels, Robin Caller, and Maneka Janahan for their contributions to this journey.
